LOCAL SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT

Course ID: IIS/TS-SE>LOKOCZŚ
Course title: LOCAL SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT
Semester: 2 / Winter
ECTS: 5
Lectures/Classes: 30 / 30 hours
Field of study: Environmental Engineering
Study cycle: 2nd cycle
Type of course: compulsory
Prerequisites: Water and sewage technology
Contact person: dr hab. inż. Katarzyna Pawęska, profesor uczelni; katarzyna.paweska@upwr.edu.pl
Short description: The main aim of the course is to introduce the students with the methods and activities aimed to solving problems related to wastewater treatment in local/non-urbanized areas; the design of selected systems of wastewater treatment plants with using alternative methods of wastewater treatment.
Full description: Actual technological problems associated with the treatment of wastewater in non-urbanized areas. Alternative methods of wastewater treatment. The hydrophyte method of treatment of different types of wastewater in selected configurations. Hydrology and hydraulics of hydrophyte systems. Transformations processes of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus in hydrophyte systems. Stabilization and sludge dewatering in hydrophyte method. Separations systems. Energy crops in local wastewater treatment systems.
Bibliography: ROBERT H. KADLECSCOTT D. WALLACE: Treatment Wetlands, Second edition, Taylor &Francis Group, 2009
Learning outcomes: Student knows the technologies used in wastewater collection, treatment and safely entering to the environment in local/non-urbanized areas; knows the solutions that can be applied to reduce the risk associated with the wastewater entering to the environment; understands the biochemical processes of pollutants transformations in wastewater treated in hydrophyte technology
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: grade obtained at classes (60%) and lectures (40%).
